‘The Line’ (1993) – Revisited

With the new piece ‘Walking 2021’ I wish to recreate a fragment of my journey in Landrover along the Jutlandic coast line. A trip that acted as research preceding ‘The Line – The Light, Peace Sculpture 1995’, which was a 532 km long light line along the Western Jutlandic coast line from Skagen in the North to Sild in the South.

‘Walking 2021’ – Twelve words

In ‘Walking 2021’ I commence my journey in the North by Gammel Skagen. Every hour I make a stop to write one of 12 words from the piece ‘The Line’ in the sand:

INGENTING – HAV – KÆRLIGHED – BUNKERE – BEVÆGELSE – KORN – MEDITATION – SPOR – RO – SAND – HIMMEL – UNIVERS

The twelve words describe what the West Coast means to me. They were and still are my attempt to ‘seize’ this space in a concrete and metaphysical sense.

The words provide a basis for the sculpture ‘The Line’ (1995), which is comprised of 13 concrete squares with 13 words. Originally, the sculpture was created for ‘The Line – The Light, Peace Sculpture 1995’, where seven words were placed at Grenen in Skagen, one in Ringkøbing, and five crossing the Danish-German border at Rudbøl Border Crossing. The sculpture is currently exhibited in the public space in Thyborøn.
